A Gobabis resident who in April 2016 was found guilty of hacking his girlfriend to death with a panga in 2012, has been sent to jail for an effective 35 years. Thirty five year-old Joel Petrus appeared before High Court Judge Alfred Siboleka on a charge of murder with direct intent to kill on Monday.

A man accused of hacking his 28-year-old girlfriend with a panga at the Orwetoveni residential area of Otjiwarongo in Otjozondjupa region on Friday, has pleaded guilty to the murder. 59-year-old farmer was allegedly attacked by one of her employees in the early hours of Sunday morning on her farm in the Otjozondjupa Region. Spokesperson of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in the region, Warrant Officer Maureen Mbeha said the incident occurred at around 04h00 on Farm Fokshop, situated approximately 80 kilometers east of Grootfontein.
