Brave Warriors through to World Cup qualifying group stages

Petrus Shitembi produced a sterling performance to lead the Brave Warriors to a 2-0 victory over a well-organised Eritrea on Tuesday evening at the Sam Nujoma Stadium, as Namibia qualified for the 2022 Qatar World Cup group stages.
The victory follows a 2-1 win over the same opponents in Eritrea last week, giving Namibia a 4-1 aggregate win.
Namibia started off on the front foot, with Chris Katjiukua twice heading over the bar from corner kicks in the first 10 minutes, while Benson Shilongo rattled the crossbar with a header from another corner in the 25th minute.
The visitors, who were well organised, grew in confidence and managed to test Loydt Kazapua with a free-kick, but it was Namibia who struck first in the 24th minute when Absalom Iimbondi beat the Eritrean goalkeeper with a powerful shot at the near post.
Eritrea captain, Henock Goitom, nearly grabbed an equaliser on the stroke of halftime but his shot missed the crossbar by inches to leave the score at 1-0 for the host at half time.
Eritrea improved in the second half but failed to trouble the Namibian defence.
It was, however, Shitembi who thrilled the crowd with his silky dribbling and passing skills as Namibia dominated possession but failed to capitalise on the many chances they created.
In the 84th minute, Namibia’s captain on the night, Peter Shalulile, scored a goal when substitute Joslin Kamatuka broke free on the right flank and his pinpoint pass found him unmarked before he sent the ball into the back of the net to make it 2-0 for Namibia.
Namibia will now play in the group stages of the FIFA World Cup qualifiers, which kick off in March 2020.
