The High Court has dismissed, with costs, the application brought by the National Society for Human Rights of Namibia (NAMRIGHTS) to declare the Olufuko Annual Cultural Festival as a female sexual initiation ritual.
In October 2019, NAMRIGHTS instituted a legal claim against the Namibian Government and the organisers of Olufuko a harmful traditional practice.
The court cited that no persons have been wrongfully deprived of their liberty.
Therefore the applicant has been ordered to pay the costs of the first, second, third and fourth respondents, including costs occasioned by the employment of one instructing counsel.
The matter is finalised and removed from the roll.
