Operation Kalahari Desert member arrested on murder charge

The Namibian Police issued a press statement on Friday to announce that a member of Operation Kalahari Desert was arrested after yet another person was killed during a patrol in Windhoek.
Benesius Kalola, a 32-year-old Namibian, died on Thursday, at 10h45 at Market Street, Katutura.
The police say the incident happened while members of Operation Kalahari Desert Phase II searched for narcotics and found "a substantial amount of cannabis/dagga... and three suspects were arrested."
A case of murder (CR122/09/2019) was registered and a member of Operation Kalahari Desert Phase II was arrested and is expected to appear in the Katutura Magistrate's Court on Monday, 9 September.
While stating that the loss of life is regrettable NamPol say, "contrary to what was published in the media that the deceased had no criminal inclination, preliminary investigation has revealed that the deceased had two outstanding criminal cases, robbery with aggravating circumstances and armed robbery, respectively."
It is not known what sparked the shooting as police investigations are still in the early stages.
