Samherji vessel seized by NAMPOL

A vessel belonging to Samherji has been seized by the Namibian Police (NAMPOL) today and is kept at the Walvis Bay Harbour.
Heinaste was first impounded when its captain was found fishing in a restricted area but was later released.
NAMPOL thus acted after investigation and the Prosecutor General was preparing for an application for a restraining order for the vessel.
It further acted swiftly as two other vessels, Saga and Geysir, which also belong to Samherji, left Namibian waters and are currently in international waters.
Speaking to NBC, NAMPOL's Head of Criminal Investigation Nelius Becker stated that any officer can, under Section 28 of the Prevention of Crime Act, seize any instrumentalities in crime.
It is under this section that Nampol will keep the vessel under its control pending the court application.
