Athletes Commission to host career development workshop

The Athletes Commission under the Namibia National Olympic Committee will host a career outreach workshop on the 15th of June in Windhoek.
According to the Chairperson of the Athletics Commission Gaby Ahrens this workshop is aimed at healing athletes to confidently stride into a dual or new post- competitive sports career using their transferable skills.
“Athletes are not always prepared and equipped to transition into other roles once they have retired from competitive sport, Athletes are presented with numerous challenges during and after competition from dealing with depression, finding their purpose and try to fit into the professional business world, that is why it is important to have such workshop” Ahrens said.
Many athletes are focused on competing and fail to develop professional skills, making it difficult for them to obtain employment once they have retired, further obstructing them in their future career. This places a burden on them as their finances become strained.
The workshop material has been designed to specifically support elite athletes to balance sport training and competition alongside their education. It will also help athletes to manage dual careers.
Only 40 athletes will participate in the workshop. As such, athletes are urged to register now at the Namibia National Olympic Committee.
