Collin Benjamin, who is the assistant to Ricardo Mannetti, will lead the Brave Warriors when they take on Comoros away in the 2020 Chan qualifiers on the 27th of this month, according to sources close the NFA.
Contacted for comment, NFA normalisation chairperson Hilda Basson-Namundjebo confirmed to the NBC sport desk that this was the decision that was taken by Mannetti before they went to AFCON.
“I’m meeting with Mannetti tomorrow to confirm if his earlier decision of handing over the coaching job to Collin Benjamin during the Chan qualifiers remains or of the status quo has changed - only then can I confirm” Basson-Namundjebo said.
Basson-Namundjebo also said that she will have a meeting with Benjamin to hear if he is ready to take up the task at hand.
Benjamin was also in charge of the Cosafa team that lost in the group stages of that competition in South Africa in May this year.
Chan is an African Football competition only intended for local-based players.
Namibia qualified for this competition in 2018 for the first time.
The tournament was then hosted by Morocco, where the Brave Warriors lost two - nil to the hosts in the quarter finals. Cameroon will host the 2020 edition.
Attempts to get a hold of Mannetti and Benjamin were unsuccessful.
