Brave Gladiators head coach Brian Isaacs has named 22 players who will represent Namibia in the 2018 Africa Women Cup of Nations qualifier against Zimbabwe in Windhoek at Sam Nujoma Stadium on Thursday.
Among the players he called, Coach Brian Isaacs included three foreign-based players, namely Zenatha Coleman who plays in Spain at Real Zaragoza,
Veweziwa Kotjipati, who plays in Germany at Tus Lipperode and Annoushka Kordom who plays in the US at Corbon Warriors. According to him, everything is going according to plan.
“Preparations are going well and all the foreign-based players took part in our first training session yesterday with the rest of the team, competition for places is healthy despite the fact that I did not have a broad base to select from due to the absence of a competitive league, I have an idea of how opponents Zimbabwe play after I watched them during the (Cosafa) Cup last year at their home ground our aim is to win” coach Brian Isaacs said.
Namibia participated in the same tournament in 2016 and failed to progress beyond the group stages, while Zimbabwe lost in the finals by 2-1 to South Africa.
The 2018 Africa Women Cup of Nations qualifiers' first round first leg match between the Gladiators and Zimbabwe will take place on Thursday at 18h00 at the Sam Nujoma stadium.
The winner will advance to the second round where either Tanzania or Zambia await. The winner of that encounter eventually books their tickets for the finals.
