Namibian Olympic boxer Jonias Junius Jonas will remain in Brazil to face trial for his alleged attempted sexual assault of a Brazilian house maid at the Athletes Village in Rio.
Jonas Junius Jonas was left behind when Team Namibia boarded a plane back home.
Jonas who was arrested for the case was later released under the care of the Namibian Embassy in Brazil.
He was then allowed to fight where he lost to France boxer Hassan Amzile on points.
The National Olympics Committee (NNOC) has since then enlisted the services of tip-top lawyers to help fight the case on behalf of Jonas.
The NNOC also called for financial help back home and for the intervention of the Government in the case.
Brazilian Legal Act of 1992 states the definition of attempted rape or rape and sexual harassment as one and the same crime.
A judge in Brazil has said Brazilian laws apply to everyone - Brazilians and visitors alike.
The penalty, if convicted, is between six and ten years jail term.
