Junior tennis players receive national colours

Namibian Junior Tennis players received national colours on Thursday, ahead of the ITF/CAT u14 and u16 Southern African Individual and Team Championships that will take place from 10 to 19 January 2020 in Windhoek.
A total of 120 players from 12 countries are expected to attend this event, thereby giving Namibian players ample opportunity to improve their African rankings.
The hand-over of national colours to the 24 junior tennis players was done by the president of the Namibia Tennis Association Sam Kaulinge, who encouraged the youngster to give the event their best shot.
” Please try, be at your best behavour, keep the Namibian name very high so that when the people go back they will say we had a good time in Namibia. That is the message we want to hear after the tournament” Kaulinge said.
Chairperson of NTA’s Junior Tennis division, Santie van der Walt, said it is a known fact that the Zonals attract a record number of entries and the association is thus well-prepared to host all the visitors.
” They played very hard throughout the year. They compete in a lot of tournaments to be able to be selected for the teams. we have a lot of players and they are fortunate to be selected, but they worked very hard” van der Walt said.
The players are ready looking forward to the upcoming event and shared their excitement
Each of the 12 countries are expected to enter 12 players , but host Namibia has the advantage to enter more players.
In total, 17 courts will be used over the 10 days of which two are still under construction - expected to be completed by the end of the year.
