Namibia's Brave Warriors started off their qualifying campaign for the 2022 Qatar FIFA World Cup with a 2 - 1 away win against Eritrea on Tuesday afternoon in Asmara.
The Brave Warriors started the match the brighter of the two but were also wasteful in front of the goal as they missed out on several chances.
Seeing that Namibia is ranked ranked 121st while Eritrea is ranked 202nd in the world, many believed the visitors would turn the screws on Eritrea - but at first the Brave Warriors could not make use of their experience and superior ball possession, as they failed to produce the goods in front of the goal.
Whatever the coach said during half time must have inspired the Brave Warriors nonetheless, as they showed an improved performance which eventually saw them scoring two goals in eight minutes to seal their progression to the next round - provided they don't concede at home.
Captain on the day Peter Shalulile's score and an own goal by a Eritrean defender were enough to give the Namibians two crucial away goals.
The match headed for a tense finish when Eritrean captain Henok Goitom got his name on the scoresheet from close range to make it 2-1, but Namibia held out and will go into the return leg with a crucial advantage.
The return leg will take place on the 10th of September 2019 at the Sam Nujoma Stadium.
