A 22-year-old Angolan national arrested at Ogongo for attempted murder and concealment of birth

Police in the Omusati Region have arrested a 22-year-old Angolan national on Tuesday at Ogongo for attempted murder and concealment of birth.
It is alleged that at around 12h00 at Pub Never Mind in Omugongo location, the suspect gave birth to a baby girl whom she wrapped in a refuse bag. The suspect then dumped the baby into a pit latrine.
The baby was rescued by police officers following reports by community members of a crying baby coming from the pit latrine.
Omusati Regional Commander, Commissioner Titus Shikongo says, the baby girl is currently being cared for at the Oshikuku Roman Catholic Hospital.
She is reported to be in good health and appears not to have sustained any serious injuries.
The suspect is employed at a Chinese shop in Ogongo.
She has not yet appeared in court as she is still in hospital but under police custody and may appear only tomorrow.
Another alternative is to present the docket in her absentia.
