Algeria was little troubled by Kenya in the first 45 minutes of the game, with the North African team doing all the attacking.
They found their first goal through a penalty that was converted by Baghdad Bounedjah after Youcef Atal was fouled in the box.
Nine minutes later, it was the Manchester City Super Star and Algerian Captain Riyad Mahrez who got the second goal for his country.
The second half was about managing the game for Algeria and they did well to get the maximum points.
The Lions of Teranga - better known as Senegal - were also favourites in their encounter to get maximum points and it thus came as no surprise when they drew first blood in the 28th minute, with Keita Balde’s grass cutter shot.
The Senegalese team put their opponents under pressure in the game and should have ideally scored more than one goal at the break.
Tanzania, who are playing just their second AFCON competition after their first appearance in 1980, were not causing their opponents many problems in the second half either.
That allowed “The Lions of Teranga” to play with more freedom and so they doubled their lead with a well-taken volley by the 20-year-old Krepin Diatta, who in the process scored his first goal for his country.
Senegal won the game without their captain Sadio Mane, who was watching from the stands due to a one match suspension.
