Nambala urges athletes to register for emergency income grant

Local para-athlete Johannes Nambala is urging fellow athletes to register for the Emergency Income Grant, which is currently being distributed by the government through the Ministry of Finance.
The Emergency Income Grant was introduced by the Namibian government to ease people's financial strains, caused by the outbreak of COVID-19.
Among those being strained are also individuals in the sport industry, as all major competitions have either been cancelled or postponed.
This situation has also led to the Namibia Sports Commission to call for a temporary halt of all sport activities.
It is against this background that para-athlete Johannes Nambala is appealing to athletes to make use of the Emergency Income Grant during these trying times.
“I would like to use this opportunity to urge athletes to register for the emergency income grant in order to benefit from it. Do not be shy or afraid to register. We used to compete in some competitions and win something, but now that all the competitions have been cancelled and there is no income. We have families to look after” Nambala said.
The Emergency Income Grant is a once off payment of 750 Namibia dollars, which the Ministry of Finance started distributing to those who qualify earlier this week.
